Roche Diagnostics Captures Largest Number of Frost & Sullivan's 2002 Excellence in Healthcare Awards

SAN JOSE, Calif. - November 7, 2002 - Frost & Sullivan honored Roche Diagnostics Corporation and its President and CEO, Martin Madaus, with the presentation of three prominent awards at last night's 2002 Excellence in Healthcare Awards Banquet held in La Jolla, California.

Frost & Sullivan bestowed the Clinical Diagnostics Company of the Year and Market Engineering Leadership awards to Roche Diagnostics and Clinical Diagnostics CEO of the Year to Mr. Madaus. In addition to accepting the awards at the banquet, Mr. Madaus delivered the Keynote Speech, regarding leading innovation in global healthcare companies.

The Company of the Year award recognizes the company that Frost and Sullivan deems to have demonstrated unparalleled excellence in its industry and is perceived to exhibit outstanding management and consistent growth, as well as a positive social and economic impact on local and national communities.

"Roche Diagnostics exhibits strong growth in the clinical diagnostics industry- maintaining an impressive lead in this dynamic market. Roche is one of the first clinical diagnostic companies to employ direct-to-consumer marketing, a bold move that promises to further augment and establish their market presence," explains Frost & Sullivan Industry Analyst Kelly Westfall, MT. "Additionally, Roche has recently secured substantial contracts with GPOs and is currently at the vanguard of molecular diagnostics innovation. Successful marketing and innovation in this comprehensive smoothly run business unit is largely responsible for Roche Diagnostics' unmatched excellence.

Frost & Sullivan's Market Engineering Leadership award is presented to the company that has exhibited market share leadership in its industry and the ability to monitor market changes and implement successful strategies to address these dynamics.

Roche leads by more than forty-one percent when comparing its annual revenues to those of its closest competitor. Roche, the most prolific of all clinical diagnostic companies, continues to direct the market with highly innovative products and health solutions.

The CEO of the Year award acknowledges the CEO who has best demonstrated leadership excellence within his industry. Performance measurement has been based on decisions that improved earnings and market standing, as well as vision and risk-taking.

Since his appointment as President and CEO in January 2000, Mr. Madaus leads Roche Diagnostics to product innovation and production before other companies achieve the same technology and applications. Mr. Madaus also places strong emphasis on customer satisfaction, which remains high for Roche, as well as the talents of his people, whom he recognizes as largely responsible for the continued success of the company.

"The Frost and Sullivan awards are an honor because they are a testimony to our innovative and talented people." said Martin Madaus, President and CEO of Roche Diagnostics, North America.
