Roche Diagnostics Recognized For Its Innovation, Product Design
and Leadership in Diabetes Care Technology in 2002
Basel, Switz. - January 20, 2003 - For more than 25 years,
Roche Diagnostics has been a pioneer and leader in the development

Roche received the following awards in 2002: The Design Business
Association (UK) and The Chicago Athenaeum Good Design Award (US)
for Accu-Chek Inform; The US National Association of Chain Drug
Stores (NACDS) and Canon Communications LLC best product in home
healthcare and medical design award and The Medical Design Excellence
Award for Accu-Chek Compact; and several E-Healthcare/ Leadership
Awards (US).
Accu-Chek Inform
The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design, announced
that Roche Diagnostics and Kinneir Dufort received the Good Design
award in the medical equipment category for its Accu-Chek Inform.
Founded in 1950, Good Design is the world's oldest and most celebrated
awards program that bestows international recognition upon designers
and manufacturers for advancing new and innovative product concepts
and originality.
The Good Design Award was announced just one month after the company
received a prestigious award from the UK Design Business Association
for the design and commercial effectiveness of the Accu-Chek Inform.
The main requisite to achieve this award is proven sales growth
by superior product design.
Accu-Chek Compact
The US National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) and Canon
Communications LLC awarded Roche Diagnostics for the best product
in home healthcare and medical design for its integrated blood glucose
monitoring system - the Accu-Chek Compact System.
The Accu-Chek Compact System integrates multiple features into
a single system. The Accu-Chek Compact System being "the one
with the drum," eliminates the need to handle test strips
and code keys. The automatic coding and the integrated test strips
allow for easier and safer handling.
Roche Diagnostics also was named a gold winner at the Medical Design
Excellence Awards Competition, sponsored by Canon Communications
LLC, during the Medical Design and Manufacturing East (MDEA) 2002
Conference and Exposition in New York City. This award recognizes
products for innovation, design and engineering excellence, end-user
and patient benefits, and cost-effectiveness in manufacturing and
the healthcare industry. MDEA is the only awards program that exclusively
recognizes contributions and advances in the design of medical products.
E-Healthcare and Excellence in Healthcare
Roche Diagnostics E-Business unit received nine awards during the
Healthcare Internet & Technology conference for leading the
industry in e-healthcare strategies. The website, Accu-Chek.com,
won silver awards for best site content and best site design. Other
awards included: CEO Commitment to Healthcare, overall Internet
site, e-Business strategy and interactivity. Sites receiving the
2002 e-Healthcare Leadership Awards were selected from more than
1,000 entries.
Additionally, Frost & Sullivan, a global leader in strategic
market training and growth consulting, honored Roche Diagnostics
Corporation, the center of the North American headquarters for the
diagnostics and diabetes business, with the presentation of three
prominent awards: The Company of the Year, Market Engineering Leadership
and CEO of the Year.
