Frost & Sullivan Recognizes Roche Diagnostics
as In Vitro Diagnostics Innovative Company of the Year

Frost & Sullivan presented Roche Diagnostics Corporation with
the In Vitro Diagnostics Innovative Company of the Year Award at
last night's 2003 Global Excellence in Healthcare & Life Sciences
Awards Banquet.
In addition to accepting the award, Roche Diagnostics' CEO, Dr.
Martin Madaus, addressed an audience of over 300 healthcare industry
leaders in the pharmaceutical, drug discovery, and medical device
markets earlier yesterday during a "Mover & Shaker Live!"
Interview. Madaus also participated in the "Global Excellence
in Healthcare" CEO Panel, where he spoke on strategies to successfully
address and answer market dynamics in a challenging economy.
The recognized leader of the global in vitro diagnostics market,
Roche further consolidated its position at the top through continuous
product innovation based on pioneering technology. The company's
broad portfolio of unique diagnostic solutions includes Accu-Chek®
blood glucose monitors, the Elecsys® Immunoassay system, and
the COBAS® Amplicor analyzer.
Other new products, such the COBAS TaqMan 48 Analyzer, clearly
indicate that Roche continues to set uncompromisingly high standards
for itself in providing products that truly make a difference to
the healthcare and diagnostics industry.
The company's strong focus on providing better patient care led
to the introduction of its revolutionary COBAS TaqMan 48 Analyzer
this year. When paired with the AmpliPrep Analyzer, this product
offers automated detection and quantification of pathogen RNA and
DNA. Automated solutions help minimize operator error and maintain
sample integrity, both of which are critical factors for highly
sensitive molecular diagnostics assays.
Roche has also established itself as a market leader in the point-of-care
(POC) diagnostics industry, having developed a wide range of glucose
monitoring products.
"By understanding the fundamental needs of its customers and
patients, and meeting those needs with innovative, but practical,
technology, Roche has catapulted itself to the forefront of the
in vitro diagnostics marketplace," says Isaac Meek, Frost &
Sullivan industry analyst. "This approach has led Roche to
build a collection of industry-shaping products and helping customers
deliver actionable health information."
Roche Diagnostics' culture is based upon being an employer of choice
where high performing people are driving its business. Armed with
novel technologies targeted at meeting the requirements of the medical
community as well as enhancing the patient's quality of life, Roche
Diagnostics is well positioned for future success.
Frost & Sullivan presents the In Vitro Diagnostics Company
of the Year Award to the company that has achieved comprehensive
excellence by virtue of its exceptional management skills, competitive
strategy, customer service leadership, and top-of-the-line products
and services. Successful integration of sound marketing strategies
with revolutionary technology is another key factor taken into consideration.
Held in San Diego, California, the Frost & Sullivan banquet
honored world-class companies for outstanding performance and achievements
in the healthcare industry. An annual event, the banquet recognizes
the quality and merit of these distinguished companies.
