Roche Diagnostics Improves All-in-One Blood Glucose System
ACCU-CHEK® Compact Plus system includes preloaded drum of strips and detachable lancet device

People with diabetes and their physicians know that effective self-management through blood glucose monitoring can improve their health. An improvement of the original ACCU-CHEK Compact system, the ACCU-CHEK Compact Plus system, is an integrated system that provides two solutions for people with diabetes—the convenience of an all-in-one system with the least painful technology.1 The system features a preloaded drum with 17 test strips, no coding2 and the ACCU-CHEK Softclix Plus detachable lancet device for one-handed operation. The one-step system is based on technologies previously cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

“The ACCU-CHEK Compact Plus system has everything needed for testing in one device, making testing less complicated and more convenient. This innovative system is an excellent tool for testing at home or on the go,” said Don Dumoulin, Senior Vice President, Roche Diabetes Care, North America. “Roche Diagnostics understands that people with diabetes have different needs. With two product launches—the ACCU-CHEK Compact Plus system and the ACCU-CHEK Aviva system—in the past six months, our broad portfolio provides options to fit into any lifestyle.”

This upgraded version of the revolutionary ACCU-CHEK Compact system, which launched in 2001, also includes the integrated 17-strip drum, which eliminates the need for patients to handle test strips and automates strip processing. In addition, by using the drum, the user is not required to code the meter. The system also features a fast test time (five seconds) and a user-friendly design that includes intuitive buttons and a large display screen to ensure optimal visibility.

The ACCU-CHEK Compact Plus system includes the ACCU-CHEK Softclix Plus lancet device, which is conveniently attached on the right side of the meter. With cam-driven technology to minimize painful side-to-side motion, this detachable lancet device has been proven least painful.1 It also features 11 different depth settings and a choice of six test sites on the body. Users are able to prime, fire and dispose of lancets with the touch of just one button.

Improved from the original ACCU-CHEK Compact system, the ACCU-CHEK Compact Plus system can store the results of 300 tests in its downloadable memory with 7-, 14- and 30-day averaging. It can also distinguish between the control solution and a blood sample and, therefore, automatically excludes the control values from the meter’s memory. These features allow people with diabetes and their healthcare providers to evaluate trends and improve long-term management of blood glucose levels.

The ACCU-CHEK Compact Plus system is part of the Roche Diagnostics team-based approach to better diabetes management, the Circle of Care. Patients rely on many supportive relationships to help them manage their diabetes—a Circle of Care that includes family, friends, healthcare professionals and pharmacists. The ACCU-CHEK brand helps complete this Circle of Care by providing products, services and technologies that help people with diabetes and their caregivers collect, analyze and act on information for better diabetes management.3 Blood glucose monitoring products, insulin delivery systems and data management decision tools continue to evolve, making it simpler, faster and more convenient for patients to self-manage their diabetes. Product innovations such as shorter test times, small test samples and alternate site testing and innovations in pump therapy and data management help improve the ability for greater control and assessments of glycemic status.
